When Should I Change Payroll Software?

When to change payroll software? The short answer is, “On any day that ends in ‘y’.”

Payroll Connected has been around for a few years now, and in that time we have had the opportunity to talk with many business owners and administrative professionals that have expressed their dissatisfaction with the payroll processing method they were using. Indeed, many of them are still using that same method despite their grievances. Why? Because there is a perception that to change payroll software is a complicated mess that should be avoided at all costs, or because they want to wait until the end of the payroll year. So they’ll put it off for now, and the next thing they know, months, if not years, have passed and they are still using that same frustrating payroll system despite better judgement.

By talking with a professional or product specialist of that payroll software though, you can get the right advice on what to expect when changing systems. They can help lay out a plan of implementation that will not only take all the confusion and complication out of starting with a new system, but can also guide and instruct you on how to use that new system along the way. Many payroll software and services offer this guidance for free, and are happy to discuss your situation even before you commit to using their products. That way you will have a clear picture of what to expect before even dipping your toe in the water.

Change Payroll Software and Expect the Best

With Payroll Connected, what to expect is simple.

Step 1: Decide on the pay period to start using Payroll Connected.

Step 2: Enter each employee record once. They are then saved in Payroll Connected to be used over and over again.

Step 3: Enter 30 days of history, previous from the next statutory holiday. If timed right, this step can be skipped all together (if the next stat day is more than 30 days away).

Step 4: Send us the Year to Date numbers from the last payroll. We will enter them into Payroll Connected free of charge.

Done! That wasn’t so hard, was it? Now there’s no more payroll frustration, and there’s suddenly more time to do other things.

Now is the Time for Change

Why is now a good time to change payroll software instead of waiting for the end of the payroll year though? Doesn’t it just make sense to wait for the New Year to start a new system? Although it does make a bit of sense in terms of having all your numbers in one spot, just think back to the start of the New Year.

How was the holidays for you? End of year preparations, checks and balances for the year end numbers, PIER reviews, multiple statutory holidays within the same pay period, Christmas shopping, holiday plans, preparing the office to run itself if you’re taking time off and so on. All this during what is for most the busiest time of the year for sales. Does that sound like the best time to change payroll software? No, not really. Then the next thing you know, by the time everything’s settled down, it’s mid February and the inclination is to suffer through with the current payroll system for yet another year.

But you’re in luck! This doesn’t have to be another year of frustration and pain. Because I just looked at my calendar, and luck would have it, today ends with a ‘y’. So maybe now would be a good time to give us a call or sign up for a free trial and get rid of that payroll pain for the rest of this payroll year and get your Payroll Connected.
